Airline Coupé Fuel Tank

The fuel tank for the Airline Coupé
is similar to, but not The tank is 30-1/2" wide x 11-11/16" tall (not including neck, 13" with neck) x 5-15/16" thick to seam line (4" at top). The seam is only at front of tank, 4-7/8" from bottom. The tank tapers at the rear of tank 4-7/8" from bottom and tapers at the rear of tank 4-5/8" from bottom. A single taper at front of tank at 8" from bottom.

There are three vertical baffles secured inside by solder through the walls at 7", 15-1/4", and 23-1/2" from one (either) end. The neck is a 2-1/8" OD brass and is soldered in the top pointing slightly to the right rear. Securing strap stay clips are soldered to the top of tank at 3-3/" and 29-1/2" from neck (right) end. End panels are soldered into the ends and are indented 3/8".
There are two 3/8" BSP brass fittings riveted and soldered
into the bottom at 8" (reserve) and 10" (main) from right end and 2-1/2"
from the front edge of bottom. The unions screwed into the tank fittings are
shown below. The main union is a 5/16" OD copper pipe soldered into and
extending 2-3/4" above the 3/8" to 5/16" BSP male-male reducing union. The
reserve union is a 3/8" diameter fine mesh cylinder soldered into and
extending 2" above the 3/8" to 5/16" BSP male-male reducing union. |

Securing straps are 1" x .050" steel 27-7/8" long with a 5/16"
BSF stud welded to each end, each 2-1/2" long and extending approximately 2"
below the strap. These go through corresponding holes in a 34-3/8" x 11-3/4"
wooden panel of 1/2" plywood, which is, in turn screwed to the bottom of the
body. However, the tank rests on two 1-1/4" x 3/4" x 10" wood strips screwed to
the wooden base. There is also a 1" x 3/4" x 34-1/2" wood strip screwed to the
front edge of the wooden base. There is a rectangular hole in the wooden base
for access to the unions as well as a 1" wide slot directly beneath and centered |
